Ambassador Iftikharul Karim is educated in Dhaka University, Honours in Physics, and Masters Degree from Karachi University. Retired career diplomat of the former Pakistan Foreign Service and later of the Bangladesh Civil Service (FA). Served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. Overseas assignments in Bangladesh embassies in Stockholm, Ankara, Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, Political Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission, Washington, D.C., Seoul, Beijing. Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea (ROK)2000-2002, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Peoples Republic of China, 2002-2003, concurrently Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Mongolia and the Peoples Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK). Participant of the Fulbright Exchange Program in the Institute of International Studies, University of South Carolina, USA (1978-80).
Conferred with the Order of the Diplomatic Service Merit Gwanghwa Medal (Republic of Korea) 2002. Married with three children.
