A retired diplomat, Ambassador F. A. Shamim Ahmed joined the Foreign Service in 1974 and has held various assignments both in Bangladesh Missions abroad and the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka during his 33-year long career. He served as the country’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ambassador to the Netherlands and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, besides holding various other posts in Bangladesh Missions Rome, Tokyo and Nairobi. He also served as Director General (South Asia) in the Foreign Ministry. Shamim Ahmed obtained BA (Honours) and MA degrees in Sociology from the Dhaka University and also taught the subject as a lecturer in the University of Chittagong.
